The North Sound Fire Academy prepares students to meet the job performance requirements for volunteer, part-time and career firefighters whose duties are primarily structural in nature as described in NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. Additional instruction is provided to meet the requirements of Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 296-305 Vertical Safety Standards for Fire Fighters and NFPA 1500 Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program. The Fire Academy emphasizes manipulative skills, team building, physical fitness, and wellness concepts.
Classroom and training ground instruction includes firefighter skills, fire behavior, fire control techniques, fire ground operations, salvage, hazardous materials, and incident command. Training ground activities allow the recruits to apply their knowledge and emphasize the mastery of basic manipulative firefighter activities and skills needed to perform tasks successfully and safely.
Program objective: To meet the standards for Washington State Firefighter I and II Certification. Upon successful completion of this 11 week program, attendees will receive a FIREFIGHTER I and II certificate of program completion. This qualifies the student to take the Washington State Exam for Firefighter I & II Certification.
